The “Carrier Control Point” (CCP), as it was sometimes called, was installed in around 250 police stations across the country. The device was used up until 1992 to activate air raids sirens and warning receivers across the district via the BT telephone lines during the cold war. It would have been operated by the “Duties Officer” at the police station who would have been specially trained for this role.
